UMT Holds 2013 Commencement Ceremony

ARLINGTON, Virginia, July 1, 2013

The University of Management and Technology held its 2013 commencement ceremony and reception on June 29, at the Artisphere in Arlington, VA. UMT alumni who graduated in the past five years were invited. Close to 200 participants from the US and overseas attended. During the ceremony, graduate representative, Dr. Glen Laman, shared his memorable learning experience at the UMT via online tools and reflected on his early educational experience in Jamaica when he was little and going to school bare-footed.

In her speech, Dr. Chen, UMT’s founder and President, reviewed UMT’s journey in the changing higher education landscape to meet the demand of working adult learners in the 21st century, and the university’s achievements in the past 15 years since it was founded in 1998. Dr. J. Davidson Frame, UMT co-founder and Academic Dean, remarked during his speech that through commencement, he and attending graduates were given the opportunity to meet face to face and that he recognized more than half of the graduates in attendance, either through grading papers, his travels to Asia to teach the programs there, or acting as the Dean of the university.

At the conclusion of the ceremony and reception, the graduates gathered at the Iwo Jima Memorial for a group photograph session.
